ENFR: Evidence Networks with Flow-Matched References for Amortized Simulation-Based Model Inference

A faster way to test whether scientific models actually fit real data

Researchers developed a machine learning method that quickly computes a key statistical measure called evidence, which tells you how well a scientific model explains observed data. Their approach, called ENFR, outperforms existing methods at this calculation and can be reused across many datasets without retraining, making it practical for real-world model testing.

Scientists often build complex simulation models but lack reliable ways to check if they actually match reality—leading to false confidence in flawed predictions. This method enables fast, trustworthy goodness-of-fit tests that work even when likelihood calculations are intractable, letting researchers catch model problems before using them to make decisions. In fields from cosmology to drug modeling, better model validation directly improves the reliability of scientific conclusions.
