Region-Aware Multi-View Inspection Using Deep Learning and Domain-Informed Decision Fusion

Using AI to catch tiny defects without rejecting good parts

A new system inspects precision components by combining two types of AI models—one that spots defects in specific regions and another that flags overall anomalies—then filters their results through manufacturing rules to make final accept/reject decisions. On fuel injector needles, this approach caught all defective parts while cutting false rejections from 57.6% down to 10.9%.

Manufacturing facilities waste money and time scrapping good parts when inspection systems are too sensitive. This framework maintains safety (catching all true defects) while making inspection practical by eliminating most false alarms, directly reducing waste in automotive production and similar precision manufacturing.
