ViTeX-Bench: Benchmarking High-Fidelity Video Scene Text Editing
How to change text in videos without breaking the scene
Researchers created the first major benchmark for editing text that appears on real-world surfaces in videos—like storefront signs or whiteboards—while keeping everything else unchanged. Testing eight existing video editors revealed a fundamental trade-off: systems can either get the text right, maintain smooth motion, or preserve the background, but not all three together.
Video editing tools power everything from marketing content to accessibility fixes, but until now there was no standard way to measure whether text edits actually work across a full video. This benchmark gives engineers a shared target to build better editors and shows exactly where current technology falls short—information that companies developing video AI tools need to improve their products.
